Emcees

  • We've historically had either one or two emcees for a full day of IndiaFOSS.

  • Prepare your script well in advace. While this sounds boring, we've found this helpful especially in getting feedback from other people

  • Check out speaker bios in their proposals on the IndiaFOSS website. While this will get you most information, we'd like for you to find their relevance to the open source/FOSS United community and highlight that as well.

  • Prepare for outro too. This is a few lines that you speak after every talk. It's important for you to highlight if they have a booth outside or any other CTA they'd like to shoutout through you.

  • Remember that your job is not to just call out specific things. You are responsible to keep the energy high in the room and to make the audience feel excited all throughout the day.

  • Make sure you know the password for the wifi, the FOSS United provisioned laptops which the speakers present from.

  • Coordinate with the audi manager and volunteers at all times

  • Ensure the speaker for the next talk is present atleast 20 minutes before the current talk ends.If you don't see them, reach out to the speaker manager inside your audi.

  • Have a quick word with the next speaker going over how they will be presenting and in case they have any special requirements.

  • Announcements promoting other activities that will be starting / going on in other parts of the conference. Sometimes speakers also have a Birds-of-Feather session or a booth in place which can be promoted uness they don’t shout them out themselves.

  • This is oddly specific but sometimes the wifi doesn’t work and you have to resort to personal hotspot. Make sure your phone has enough battery or the battery-saving modes don’t interfere!
